ENGAGE US! Art for Social Change - Digital Tour and Retrospective

Video by Astrid Bridgwood (Gallery Assistant, Fall 2022-Spring 2023).

This Spring semester, our rotating galleries saw an exhibition titled “ENGAGE US! Art for Social Change,” which centered Charlotte-based Latin-American artists and activists and presented a vibrant and contemporary gallery of mixed-media work that incorporated both art and technology. Featured artists include Irisol Gonzalez, Rosalia Torres-Weiner, Edwin Gil, and Nico Amortegui, each of whom investigated their personal histories, immigrant backgrounds, and unique experiences through bright and engrossing work that invites a viewer to look closer.

Gallery Assistant Astrid Bridgwood guides us on a digital walk-through tour of the exhibition in our Bank of America and Loevner Galleries below; also included in the exhibition was artist Rosalia Torres-Weiner’s short film “The Magic Kite,” embedded from her YouTube channel for audience convenience below, as well.
